Logwatch Logwatch is a customizable log analysis system. Logwatch parses through your system's logs for a given period of time and creates a report analyzing areas that you specify, in as much detail as you require. Logwatch is easy to use and will work right out of the package on most systems.

Logwatch was started by Kirk Bauer in 1997 and has been standard of RedHat system for as long as I can remember [Logwatch 1.6 was include in Powertools with RedHat 6.0 and Logwatch 2.1 enter the main distro with RedHat 7.2]. I started contributing to the Logwatch project somewhere around version 4.3 in late 2002.

Tips:

  • The main logwatch website is run off port 81 and 8080 if your firewall does not allow that use a mirror.
